Can chiropractic care help with my chronic headaches?

Most people experience headaches at one time or another. They can be caused by exhaustion or overindulgence and usually disappear when we resume our normal activities and get a little rest or exercise. These types of headaches are not much of a concern but others suffer more severe or chronic headaches that need to be investigated and treated appropriately.

The most common of these annoying headaches are tension headaches and migraines. Tension headaches can cause pain in all regions of the head and they are often accompanied by neck stiffness or tenderness at the base of your skull while migraines are usually accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light or noise. The causes of headaches can sometimes be difficult to discern but stress, previous neck injuries and posture strain are often involved. In many cases there is mechanical irritation of the cervical nerves that are referring pain to the head.

The good news is that a chiropractor can be of great help with tension and migraine headaches. The doctor of chiropractic is well qualified to diagnose your type of headache and provide you with an effective treatment program. Chiropractic mobilization and adjustment of the restricted spinal joints addresses the cause of the problem rather than treating the symptom with medication. When the spinal joints and muscles are working properly the nerve irritation is reduced and so are the headaches.

In addition to joint mobilization and adjustments your chiropractor may suggest ergonomic changes to your work station, a special pillow, muscle relaxation techniques and specific exercises. Chiropractors are wellness experts and will try to help you be as healthy as possible so you can enjoy your recreational activities and work more productively.

Frequent headaches are not normal and nor due to a lack of medication in your body. Your body is trying to tell you something is wrong when you have headaches or other recurring pains. Visit your local chiropractor for a solution.
